Join in and go green

Thursday 1 May, 2008 12:01am

HERE'S a chance for Lake Macquarie young people to really go green.

Charlton Federal Labor MP Greg Combet is inviting residents aged between 17 and 20 to register for the Australian Government's Green Corps program for youth development and environmental training.

"This is an opportunity to gain work experience while participating on projects that benefit all Australians," Mr Combet said. "The North Creek Riparian Rehabilitation Project will assist the Warners Bay Landcare group with regeneration and environmental protection activities. The area that has been nominated for the Green Corps team to work in will, when complete, greatly advance the outcomes that the Landcare volunteers have already achieved."

Mr Combet said residents could expect to see an improvement in water quality within the creek system and removal and control of environmental and noxious weed species as the program progresses.
