FEDERAL black spot funding has finally been made available for the notorious Dorrington and Wangi Rd intersection at Wangi Wangi.

The NSW State Government made a formal application to the black spot program which uses measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts. Charlton Federal Labor MP Greg Combet said he strongly supported the move.

"There was overwhelming support from the locals for road improvements to reduce the risk of accident at this location," he said. The intersection has been the scene of 34 collisions including two fatalities and 21 injury crashes since 2000. The upgrade was a key focus in the campaigns of Mr Combet and Lake Macquarie State Independent MP Greg Piper in 2007.
