LAST year Belmont Christian College's Timothy Whelan, 8, was the State's fifth highest fundraiser in the MS Readathon. And this year he has set his sights even higher.
Raising $3142.80 last year by reading 228 books, Timothy is aiming for closer to $5000 as he encourages family and friends to sponsor his reading efforts this year.
Timothy was asked to represent the 20,000 children who registered for last year's Readathon and deliver a speech to guests at the NSW State Library in the lead-up to this year's event which is from June 1 to June 30.
Organisers of the 29th MS Readathon say they expect there to be more than five times the number of participants registering for the Readathon than there will be athletes at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The major reading-based event raises money to help change the lives of people living with the debilitating condition multiple sclerosis.
